CEV Multimedia, a producer of Career and Technical Education (CTE) materials, announced Shaylyn Price as the 2011 recipient of the Jerry Franklin "Pursuit of Excellence" Scholarship in memory of the long-time New Mexico agricultural education instructor and former CEV employee. Price, a senior from Moriarty High School in Moriarty, NM, was chosen to receive the $500 scholarship by Gordon W. Davis, founder and chairman of CEV Multimedia, and Eddie Puckett, retired agriculture instructor and current curriculum sales consultant for CEV Multimedia. The scholarship was presented at the 2011 Eastern New Mexico State Fair Market Lamb Show in Roswell, NM. "We are so pleased to announce Shaylyn as this year's Jerry Franklin Pursuit of Excellence scholarship recipient," Puckett said. "She is intelligent, hardworking and has a very promising future. She is successful in all her endeavors and is a great representative for her school and community." Price is currently in her sixth and final year as a member of the Moriarty FFA chapter, and says showing livestock has been her true passion since she was 9 years old. No stranger to winning purple banners, she has raised and shown numerous champions at the local, state and national levels, and was also the Champion Lamb Showman at the New Mexico State Fair in 2007, 2010 and 2011. Price also exhibits a keen eye for livestock, as she was second high individual in last year's state FFA livestock judging and evaluation contest. She is currently the New Mexico Girls State Delegate and received the FFA Chapter Degree in 2011. Besides the Moriarty FFA Chapter, she is also involved in Los Amigos 4-H, Student Council and the National Honor Society.
About Jerry Franklin: The Jerry Franklin "Pursuit of Excellence" Scholarship was established by CEV to perpetuate the memory of the former longtime successful agriculture teacher, basketball coach, FFA advisor, farmer, mentor, and CEV representative. Franklin taught for 27 years at several different high schools in New Mexico, and remains a highly respected figure among the state's agriculture circle. One of his greatest passions was seeing students excel, as he was a great mentor to young people in the community as well as throughout the state of New Mexico.
