Lydia grew up in Sand Hill, MS, where she met and married her childhood sweetheart, Lonnie. Before becoming employed by CEV, Lydia was an instructor for 11 years at Black Mountain Primary where she taught Kindergarten, First, and Second grade. Her favorite part about teaching was seeing students grasp the understanding of subjects and building self-esteem. Lydia enjoys working with other educators because she knows how difficult teaching can be.
“I understand their frustration in the classroom and it makes me feel really good to have a product that can help them in so many ways,” Lydia said.
Lonnie, originally from Coal Bluff, MS, grew up on a cotton and cattle farm where his fascination for agriculture began. He has been involved in FFA since he was 13-years old and says his agriculture teacher was one of the biggest influences in his life. Throughout his careers, Lonnie has served eight years in the Mississippi Legislature, 25 years as a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, and was an instructor for 15 years. Lonnie has taught Bio Technology, Careers, Animal Science, Plant Science, and Golf Course and Turf Grass Management courses. When asked about his favorite part about teaching, Lonnie referred to his students.
“I loved seeing students develop leadership skills in FFA and becoming effective leaders at the local, state, and national levels.” Lonnie said.
Both Lydia and Lonnie were presented the Who's Who Among American Teachers award in 2002. Lonnie also had the number one FFA chapter in the Nation for the Hometown Scholarship Program at T.C. Roberson FFA.
Although they have achieved much in their lives together, Lydia and Lonnie both consider their family to be their greatest accomplishment. They have been married for 40 years and have three children and six grandchildren.
“I have been truly blessed,” Lydia said.
