Congratulations to CEV’s first Student of the Month winner,
Rachel Bandy!

From left to right: Muck Muckenfuss, CEV Curriculum Sales Consultant; Genise Toworek, Forsyth County Schools CTE Director; Amanda Parsons, Lambert High School marketing teacher; Rachel Bandy, CTE Student of the Month Club scholarship recipient; Janet Bandy, Rachel Bandy's mother; Michelle Urrea, Lambert High School marketing teacher and DECA advisor; Glenn Perryman, CEV Curriculum Sales Consultant.

Originally from Houston, TX, Rachel is a senior at Lambert High School in Suwanee, GA. She is extremely active in her high school’s DECA program, an association for marketing education students, and currently serves as the chapter’s vice president.

Rachel has been a DECA member for the past four years and a DECA officer for three years. She runs weekly officer meetings and monthly chapter meetings that consist of more than 200 attendees, and is an active participant and leader in all community service activities and fundraising. She and her partner also lead the Miss LHS Pageant, raising more than $2,000 for their chapter and $850 to a selected charity.

Rachel has competed in state DECA competitions for three years, placing third in her event in 2010 and 2011. She also competed in DECA’s International Career Development Conference, where she placed in the top 20 percent in her event. Besides DECA, Rachel is a member of the National Technical Honors Society as well.

Rachel was nominated to receive the scholarship by her teacher and DECA advisor, Michelle Urrea, who says Rachel serves as a strong leader to her peers at her high school and in her community.

“I am beyond excited for Rachel to receive this scholarship from CEV,” Urrea said. “Through her DECA chapter and class involvement, she deserves every bit of it and more!”

Rachel plans to attend Louisiana State University and is interested in pursuing a degree in public relations. Although she is an extremely accomplished high school student, Rachel attributes her strong work ethic to her role model.

“My mother is an amazing role model,” Rachel said. “She is a seven year breast cancer survivor, and is a strong, independent person who puts others before herself.”
